Hemp Fabric Care

Hemp will take good care of you, especially if you take good care of it. Below are some suggested tips for taking the best care of your hemp.

HEMP + ORGANIC COTTON BLENDS:

  • Machine wash cool, gentle with like colors.
  • Tumble dry, low heat.
  • Do not use spot laundry cleaners, bleach or other chemical and enzyme cleaners like oxi-clean.
  • Take care not to wash with garments with zippers or velcro or towels with texture as this will cause abrasion and pilling.

See more hemp fabric care tips here.

    HEMP +  WOOL BLENDS:

    • Follow the same instructions as above for Hemp + Organic Cotton blends, but be extra careful to only tumble dry on very cool settings. Laying flat to dry is the best way to maintain integrity of wool fibers.

    Why Hemp

Hemp is a naturally strong, durable fiber, which is why we use it to make clothing you'll wear for years. It's also a remarkable crop: in the right conditions, it grows with relatively little irrigation and fewer chemical inputs than cotton.

    The facts:

    1. Stronger fiber than cotton. In a peer-reviewed comparison, hemp fibers measured 310–850 MPa in tensile strength, compared with 287–597 MPa for cotton. [BioResources, NC State University]

    2. Resists pilling and wear. In 2025 lab testing of woven bast-fiber fabrics, hemp earned the highest pilling-resistance rating of the fabrics tested, holding up across repeated wear cycles. [Fibres & Textiles in Eastern Europe, 2025]

    3. Uses less water. Hemp uses about 38% less water than cotton over a growing season, and its water footprint is roughly 60% lower. [Journal of Agrometeorology, 2023; Journal of Cannabis Research, 2025]

    4. Needs fewer pesticides than cotton. Cotton is one of the most pesticide-intensive US field crops, with 42 million pounds applied across 10.3 million acres in 2021. Hemp is typically grown with substantially less pesticide input. [USDA data via Organic Trade Association]

    5. Captures carbon as it grows. Published estimates put hemp's CO₂ uptake at roughly 3–15 tonnes per hectare during cultivation. At the higher end, that outpaces the 2–6 tonnes per hectare per year typical of forests. [Portland State University review; University of Cambridge research]

    6. Can help clean soil. Hemp roots can absorb low levels of heavy metals such as cadmium, lead, and zinc from soil. This process is called phytoremediation. [Portland State University review]

Facts refer to hemp fiber and cultivation. Many of our garments are hemp–organic cotton blends.

    I can often fit into

"I can often fit into a small in other brands so was hoping for a loose fit on these in a size medium, but man are they tight on my waist! I only needed to loosen the drawstring and they fit fine now, even after washing, but I was surprised how snug that waistband is. Overall I love and live in these sweats."

    I Guess Size Up

"I ended up returning these. Beautiful fabric. Possibly they would have worked in a larger size. I felt the crotch was too short, so they didn't cover my butt. My butt is small. They were pretty well fitted in other ways. I got the Diesel Grey and it was a really nice color. In the Twill an xs is the right size and I think I do s or xs in Cambria also."

    A P P R O V E D

"Best sweatpants ever : comfy fleece interior , noticeably weighted but not heavy, deep pockets, flattering silhouette. Not your average baggy in the butt Walmart sweats - this stuff looks NICE and feels NICER. Im 5’6 and the M fit great, pants almost reached floor but I don’t trip. * the waistband was really thick and sorta painful at first but it’ll “break in” after use."

    — ZARA H. (5/5)

    Really small waistband

"I wanted to love these so much that I ordered them twice! I sized up from my usual XS but the waistband was still way too tight in the S. It was still kinda tight in the M but then got too big everywhere else. The material was thick and soft and I loved the overall shape, so I’m disappointed that these didn’t work!"

    Amazing

"They feel amazing! Knowing that I’m wearing clean safe clothing make all the difference. Warning though, I usually wear a small but I wanted a little bigger so I got a medium- and ended up having to exchange the medium for a large bc the medium were tight (even before washing)."

    — Cristina L. (5/5)

    I really loved the feel

"I really loved the feel and look of these pants and was going back and forth on whether I should exchange it for one more size up for a baggier/looser fit vs the just fit I originally ordered. Don’t have to think too hard about it though since my husband ended up loving it as much and decided to keep them for himself. Will be ordering one more size up in more colors. I do think these run small for sweatpants."
