30 Years of Hemp Innovation

From wild idea to everyday essential.

Long before hemp was trending in fashion, there was just a stubborn belief:
This plant can help change things.

Jungmaven grew out of years spent experimenting with hemp — learning how it dyes, drapes, wears, and weathers. What started as a curiosity turned into a lifelong project: make hemp easy to wear every day, and build a better future one T-shirt at a time.

The Early Days

In the ’90s, working with hemp was a little wild and a lot uncertain. It was misunderstood, heavily restricted, and definitely not the safe business move.

We did it anyway.

Those years were about:

  • Finding mills willing to experiment
  • Getting familiar with hemp’s quirks as a textile
  • Making clothes that felt different — calmer, sturdier, more grounded

We saw firsthand how powerful hemp could be, both as a material and as a message.

Jungmaven Takes Shape

By 2005, Jungmaven was officially born with a clear vision:

  • Focus on hemp-based basics — tees, sweats, and layers people actually live in
  • Dial in the fits and fabrics — so they become favorites, not backups
  • Champion hemp’s potential — not as a gimmick, but as a real solution

We’ve been building on that foundation ever since — refining silhouettes, expanding color palettes, and steadily increasing how much of our line is made closer to home.

High Style. Low Impact.

“Hemp can help heal the planet” isn’t just a tagline for us. It’s our DNA.

Every design decision runs through a few simple questions:

  • Will you want to wear this for years, not weeks?
Does it feel good on your body?
Can we make it in a way that respects land and people as much as possible?

We keep our shapes easy, our fabrics honest, and our colors inspired by the world outside — deserts, forests, oceans, and big Pacific Western skies.

Building Toward Seed to Shirt

For decades, hemp supply chains were scattered and complicated. We’ve worked with global partners who helped us grow, and we’re grateful for that.

Now, we’re pushing toward a new chapter:

  • More hemp grown in the USA
  • More yarns and fabrics produced domestically
  • More cut-and-sew happening closer to home

Our long-term goal is simple: From hemp seed in the ground to shirt on your back — as local, traceable, and regenerative as we can make it.

We’re not all the way there yet, but every season we’re a little closer.

The Jungmaven Community

Jungmaven wouldn’t exist without the people who believe in it — the ones who:

  • Wear their hemp tees until they’re almost translucent
  • Pass down a favorite sweatshirt instead of tossing it
  • Talk to their friends about why this fabric feels different

You’re the reason we keep going — trying new fabrics, refining fits, and working behind the scenes to push the industry in a better direction.

This isn’t just about clothes. It’s about shifting what “normal” looks like in your closet.

What's Next

The next decade for Jungmaven looks like:

  • More hemp innovation
  • More USA-made fabrics and garments
  • More focus on transparency and traceability
  • More everyday pieces that help people choose hemp without thinking twice

We’re not perfect. We don’t have all the answers. But we’ve been doing this a long time — and we’re in it for the long haul.

Thanks for being part of the journey.
