Hemp Fabric Care

Hemp will take good care of you, especially if you take good care of it. Below are some suggested tips for taking the best care of your hemp.

HEMP + ORGANIC COTTON BLENDS:

  • Machine wash cool, gentle with like colors.
  • Tumble dry, low heat.
  • Do not use spot laundry cleaners, bleach or other chemical and enzyme cleaners like oxi-clean.
  • Take care not to wash with garments with zippers or velcro or towels with texture as this will cause abrasion and pilling.

See more hemp fabric care tips here.

    HEMP +  WOOL BLENDS:

    • Follow the same instructions as above for Hemp + Organic Cotton blends, but be extra careful to only tumble dry on very cool settings. Laying flat to dry is the best way to maintain integrity of wool fibers.

    Why Hemp

Hemp is a naturally strong, durable fiber, which is why we use it to make clothing you'll wear for years. It's also a remarkable crop: in the right conditions, it grows with relatively little irrigation and fewer chemical inputs than cotton.

    The facts:

    1. Stronger fiber than cotton. In a peer-reviewed comparison, hemp fibers measured 310–850 MPa in tensile strength, compared with 287–597 MPa for cotton. [BioResources, NC State University]

    2. Resists pilling and wear. In 2025 lab testing of woven bast-fiber fabrics, hemp earned the highest pilling-resistance rating of the fabrics tested, holding up across repeated wear cycles. [Fibres & Textiles in Eastern Europe, 2025]

    3. Uses less water. Hemp uses about 38% less water than cotton over a growing season, and its water footprint is roughly 60% lower. [Journal of Agrometeorology, 2023; Journal of Cannabis Research, 2025]

    4. Needs fewer pesticides than cotton. Cotton is one of the most pesticide-intensive US field crops, with 42 million pounds applied across 10.3 million acres in 2021. Hemp is typically grown with substantially less pesticide input. [USDA data via Organic Trade Association]

    5. Captures carbon as it grows. Published estimates put hemp's CO₂ uptake at roughly 3–15 tonnes per hectare during cultivation. At the higher end, that outpaces the 2–6 tonnes per hectare per year typical of forests. [Portland State University review; University of Cambridge research]

    6. Can help clean soil. Hemp roots can absorb low levels of heavy metals such as cadmium, lead, and zinc from soil. This process is called phytoremediation. [Portland State University review]

Facts refer to hemp fiber and cultivation. Many of our garments are hemp–organic cotton blends.

    Very Nice Weight Hemp Shirt

"I have been trying to find a nice hemp shirt to add to a new style I am trying, and this shirt is exactly what I wanted from a premium shirt. It feels thick and also very breathable; the cut and fit is perfect, and I am excited to order more colors. Lost a bit of weight recently and still looking to slim up a bit, then the shirt will fit and give me a bit more confidence."

    — Brice M. (5/5)

Sizing off on charts even within "same" sizing

"I returned a previous order that had a small and medium shirt. Kept the medium and and sent the small back for a roomier medium. Paid return shipping and it was free to receive the oncoming package, I received a medium that fit just like the small I returned. So, their sizing is off. . . and I'm going to just keep the one I have because this stuff isn't cheap and I'll see what's the longevity of this brand against Patagonia. Can I at least get a return on shipping for the first return?? Thanks"

    — Andrea A. (3/5)

"Basically the Baja tee is slightly heavier for those cool mornings. Jungmaven has a large assortment of colors and the pumpkin spice is one that stands out. I've been buying this brand for years and I'm highly satisfied with it."

    — Eugene (5/5)

    Happy gifter

"Got as a gift for my husband - he really likes the fit after washed/dried (was a little baggier than expected prewash), and the "breathability" of the fabric. Will hopefully "wear in" well with wash and air drying as suggested by the company post-purchase"

    — Colleen L. (5/5)

    Classic look, lived-in feel

"I love having easy go-to staples in my closet and the Baja Pocket Tee is exactly that. Super classic fitting tee with a cute, functional pocket that’s breathable, comfortable, and feels lived-in from the start. I have 4!"

    — Kate M. (5/5)

    The perfect tee

"Quality you can feel and a perfect fit. This t-shirt can be beat."

    — Jordan H. (5/5)

    three-season standalone tee

"I took this and the jung to the obx this summer. I like the substantial fabric, and that weight should be excellent fall through spring. But for a sweaty beach day, 7 oz is simply too much fabric holding moisture."

    — Christopher M. (4/5)

    Yes, Baja. Yes, long sleeve.

"These do very well with a suit jacket, as I just found out. S is a bit too long in the sleeves for me, but washing lets them shrink a bit."

    — Thomas M. (5/5)

    They’re comfortable and my wife

"They’re comfortable and my wife likes them, so they have that going for them which is nice!"

    — Paul L. (5/5)

    Finally got more of them.

"Really great. I have a pocket t-shirt that 8 years old and well worn…finally bought three more. A little long for 5’9” person wearing a large, but it works."
