The finished garment is washed in color, rather than dying the fabric prior to cutting and sewing. This results in subtle variations of color and a softer texture. Washed White is not garment-dyed.

Hemp is a naturally strong, durable fiber, which is why we use it to make clothing you'll wear for years. It's also a remarkable crop: in the right conditions, it grows with relatively little irrigation and fewer chemical inputs than cotton.
The facts:
Stronger fiber than cotton. In a peer-reviewed comparison, hemp fibers measured 310–850 MPa in tensile strength, compared with 287–597 MPa for cotton. [BioResources, NC State University]
Resists pilling and wear. In 2025 lab testing of woven bast-fiber fabrics, hemp earned the highest pilling-resistance rating of the fabrics tested, holding up across repeated wear cycles. [Fibres & Textiles in Eastern Europe, 2025]
Uses less water. Hemp uses about 38% less water than cotton over a growing season, and its water footprint is roughly 60% lower. [Journal of Agrometeorology, 2023; Journal of Cannabis Research, 2025]
Needs fewer pesticides than cotton. Cotton is one of the most pesticide-intensive US field crops, with 42 million pounds applied across 10.3 million acres in 2021. Hemp is typically grown with substantially less pesticide input. [USDA data via Organic Trade Association]
Captures carbon as it grows. Published estimates put hemp's CO₂ uptake at roughly 3–15 tonnes per hectare during cultivation. At the higher end, that outpaces the 2–6 tonnes per hectare per year typical of forests. [Portland State University review; University of Cambridge research]
Can help clean soil. Hemp roots can absorb low levels of heavy metals such as cadmium, lead, and zinc from soil. This process is called phytoremediation. [Portland State University review]
Facts refer to hemp fiber and cultivation. Many of our garments are hemp–organic cotton blends.

"Very rad design, super comfortable!"
"One of my favorite sweaters ever now! I feel great wearing it and it’s super comfortable."
"excellent, cozy, fits true to size"
"I love the feel of this sweater. It’s a nice weight and soft."
"Instantly my favorite sweatshirt. It has a great cut, and the collar is both distinctive and flattering, The fabric feels substantial and hard-wearing. I feel transported to a windy surf along Highway 101. A terrific piece!"
"Cute style but I would not get Galaxy Blue because that dye rubs off onto other clothes. It's a bit long. Very nice fabric and the neck is super cute. Unfortunately I had to return it."
"Love this sweatshirt - cozy enough for lounging, stylish enough for work; the neckline and shoulder details give it a really nostalgic vibe. I pretty much lived in it the first week I got it."
"I enjoy the Whittier Sweatshirt. I like the navy blue color. It is warm and thick. I can be tough to fit because I am 6'3". The large generally fits OK, but the sleeves are slightly shorter than I would prefer. It is a bit tight in the shoulders, but I would not have wanted the XL because it would be too big in the body. The length is fine for me as it goes down a bit past my waist. I like the unique collar and high neck."
"I now own this sweatshirt in two colors and have bought it as a gift for my brother as well. Love the shoulder detail. So cozy around the neck. And it’s thicker than other Jungmaven sweatshirts I have, so perfect for extra chilly days. I sized down 1 size and it’s still plenty roomy."
"So cozy and beautifully made"
