Second Nature Project Jewelry - Bracelets

$ 48.00

The Second Nature Project is a creative endeavor residing at the intersection of art, design and activism.

Created by Jody Dunphy, each piece is handmade and designed to be a beautiful and functional vehicle for seed dispersal . The materials are thoughtfully chosen; they and virtually all are biodegradable, recycled or recyclable. Though unconventional, the main material for the jewelry is paper - paradoxically fragile and strong, two dimensional and three dimensional - paper provides an elegant, plantable casing for the seeds. Wool felt, natural dyes, metal, cotton, silk and linen cord compliment the paper, providing contrast, color and structure. The seeds are thoughtfully chosen for their  heartiness,  aesthetic and  environmental value.

This bracelet is made of stacked handmade paper discs that have clover and pollinator-friendly flower seeds embedded inside. The discs can be torn off and dispersed guerrilla-gardening style, as you go about your way, given to a friend, or planted at home and lovingly tended. Whichever method you choose, there is potential for the seeds to grow and become fragrant, medicinal flowers, giving the the world a little more beauty and the necklace a second life. The discs are strung on strong, natural-colored linen cord. Brass discs finish off the ends and compliment the soft texture of the paper while giving you a wearable keepsake even after all of the discs have been planted. The clasp is a loop clasp that slides over a small seed-bomb bead. Each bracelet comes with planting instructions.

The beads on this bracelet are tiny seed bombs in disguise. Unlike traditional seed bombs that are made of unfired clay, these are made of paper and allow you to wear it without getting dirty. They are also very light and durable and can even get a bit wet without falling apart. Each seed bomb has a variety of seeds such as chamomile, clover, cosmos, echinacea and more, all chosen for their beneficial properties. The bracelet is strung on silk cord that has been naturally dyed with onion skins. The paper beads are complimented with tiny brass beads and a simple loop clasp. Each bracelet comes with planting instructions.

DISC BRACELET/NECKLACE – (TWIG: brown/orange color AND VINE: Green color)

This piece can be worn as a necklace or wrapped around the wrist and worn as a bracelet. It works the same as the other disc bracelets and necklaces - the discs can be torn off and planted - but uses smaller discs for a more delicate look. The unique, buckle-like clasp allows you to slide off multiple discs at a time, then, re-thread the clasp and adjust it to the desired length. Chamomile seeds are used exclusively in this design and are embedded in handmade, pigment-dyed paper. It comes in two colors: the earthy brown-orange called Twig and the green gradient called Vine. Each necklace comes with planting instructions.

Length: 34"

Materials: Handmade paper, chamomile seeds, brass, silk thread
